How to find a movie from a quote
Most people misquote. That is fine — matching on meaning rather than exact wording is what makes dialogue search usable. What matters is giving the search enough context around the line.

Write the line, then add the scene
A bare five-word line is often ambiguous. The same sentence plus 'said by a father to his daughter at an airport' is usually decisive. Add who says it, to whom, and roughly what is happening.
If you remember the tone — comedic, threatening, tearful — say so. Register narrows the candidate set more than people expect.
Paraphrases and translations are fine
Semantic matching means 'he says he'll make him a deal he can't say no to' finds the same film as the exact line. Dialogue you remember in another language works too — translate it loosely and describe the scene.
Do not pad the query with guesses about the title or the year unless you are reasonably confident; a wrong guess can anchor the answer.
When dialogue search is the wrong tool
Very common phrases ('we need to talk', 'get in the car') carry no signal. Neither do lines from unproduced scripts or from dubbed versions with rewritten dialogue.
If you also have a frame, use it: an image plus a line is the strongest combination available, and the two can validate each other.
Frequently asked questions
Can I find a movie if I only half-remember the quote?
+
Yes. Matching is semantic, so paraphrases work. Adding who says it and what is happening in the scene improves accuracy substantially.
Does it work for TV shows and anime?
+
Yes — dialogue search covers films, series, anime and K-dramas, and will name the episode when the line is specific enough.
What if the quote is in another language?
+
Write it in whatever language you remember, or translate it loosely. Meaning is matched, not exact wording.
