Accuracy policy
AI identification is a strong hypothesis generator, not an authority. Here is how to treat what it tells you.
Our accuracy commitment
We do not publish a headline accuracy percentage, because a single number across all inputs would be meaningless and mildly dishonest: a poster is nearly always identified correctly, and a dark blurred close-up is nearly never. Accuracy depends far more on your input than on our pipeline.
What we commit to instead: every answer carries a confidence signal and an explanation, uncertain answers are presented as ranked alternatives, and we never present enrichment data as verified fact.
When a result is likely correct
High confidence plus an explanation that cites specific, checkable details you recognise — a named actor you can see, readable on-screen text, a location you know — is a strong result.
Two or more screenshots from different scenes agreeing on one title is the strongest signal the tool can produce.
When to be sceptical
Low or medium confidence; an explanation built on generic observations ('a modern kitchen', 'a dramatic tone'); a title released after the model's knowledge cutoff; or an explanation that contradicts something you know for certain about the scene.
Treat cast, ratings, awards and streaming availability as starting points to verify, not as citations. For anything consequential — an article, a purchase, a claim you'll repeat — confirm against the film's official listing.
Reporting an error
Send the screenshot or query, the answer you were given and the correct title to hello@whatmovieisthis.com. Repeated reports on the same kind of failure are what drive prompt and model changes.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI identify blurry or dark screenshots?

Sometimes, but accuracy drops sharply. Add a second, clearer frame from the same title whenever you can.
Why did it give me the wrong film?

Most wrong answers come from visual similarity between titles, or from a frame with too little distinguishing detail. Running again with a different scene usually resolves it.
Are the ratings and streaming links guaranteed accurate?

No. They are AI-generated alongside the identification and can be out of date or wrong. Verify before relying on them.
